Online Therapy in Connecticut and New York

Online therapy by Zoom with Christopher J. Russo, LCSW, for residents of Connecticut and New York. Most of my practice meets online, for both individual and couples therapy, and experiential therapy online can be just as effective as meeting in person. Before our first appointment you will receive a link to a secure client portal to complete forms, so we can begin our work together efficiently. If you are near Westport, in-person sessions are also available on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Who online therapy suits — and who may do better in person

Online therapy suits most people. Most of my practice meets on Zoom, and research has shown similar outcomes between online therapy and in-person therapy. That is not true for everyone: some people truly benefit more from in-person sessions, and many who were convinced they needed in-person therapy started that way and then came to prefer teletherapy. If you are near Westport, in-person sessions are available on Mondays and Wednesdays.

How an experiential session works on Zoom

Experiential therapy goes beyond talking about change, to experiencing it in the session itself. On Zoom, we work the same way — with what is happening in the moment, including feelings and bodily experience — using the approaches I use in the office, including Transformative Couples Therapy, AEDP and EMDR.

Making online sessions work

One thing that can be lost in teletherapy is the quiet time for reflection and movement that comes from travelling to and from a therapy office. Many of my clients compensate with a ritual such as a short walk, or coffee or tea at a local café, before and after sessions. I am happy to explore this with you on a free consultation call.

Licensing: why you must be located in Connecticut or New York during sessions

I am licensed in Connecticut and New York, so online sessions are for clients who are located in Connecticut or New York at the time of the session.
